Our story
Where the name comes from
Number 5 Engineering takes its inspiration from Johnny 5 — the curious, relentless robot from the 1986 film Short Circuit. Like Johnny 5, we believe that great engineering is driven by an insatiable need to learn, iterate, and create.
Founded by engineers who have spent careers designing PCBs, writing firmware, and managing production lines, we started Number 5 Engineering to offer the kind of end-to-end technical partnership that small and mid-size hardware companies rarely get access to.
We work best with teams who have a bold idea and need a trusted technical partner to help them execute it — from napkin sketch to shipping product.
Number 5 Engineering operates out of a 3,000 square foot facility east of Colorado Springs, Colorado — a fully equipped workspace purpose-built for electronics design, prototyping, and assembly.
